Women Gather at the Berg
Saturday 11 August 2018 The surf sistas of Cape Town have gathered today at Muizenberg for the ladies-only longboard event, La Muse Classic, which now runs over one day after concerns about conditions tomorrow.

They plan to spread the love of surfing to women of different ages and abilities, and infuse a mindfulness of the community and the environment.
La Muse will include an Open Division, where world class female longboard surfers will showcase their precision and flow. However, all ages and levels of skill and style are included in the other divisions: The novice surfers who have finally found the time and courage to learn to surf, gromettes at the start of their journey, 30+ Mystics, 40+ Divas and the lovely Lady Legends who have seen out fifty.
La Muse creates a space for all the surf sirens along our shores to showcase their style and grace or be nurtured to push their personal boundaries. The organisers, Charmaine Adams and Cheree Thomson, want to encourage and inspire young and not-so-young women to compete together in a fun, friendly, inclusive and supportive environment.
La Muse celebrates the way surfing inspires women, uplifts them and draws them together in a community of soul sisters. The organisers don’t mind whether you’re on fire or still a little spark, they just want you there.

The focus will be on camaraderie, on getting in the water together, sharing the stoke of surfing, and paying the stoke forward to both the environment and the community.
La Muse will be a Blue Ocean plastic free event, thanks to the team at Ocean Pledge. All contestants and judges will receive metal water bottles from Faithful to Nature and Ocean Pledge has reached out to shops and restaurants at Surfer’s Corner to commit to being single use plastic free, particularly on the weekend of La Muse. The lady sliders will also have the opportunity to work along with the Beach Co-Op in their monthly beach cleanup during the weekend.
The women of La Muse will be able to keep the chilly breeze out of their salty hair thanks to beanies knitted by pensioners of “The Young Knitters Club of Lavender Hill”. (An NGO that gives women education and employment opportunities.)
That capricious dance to the mercurial tune of a wave is a beautiful thing to watch, so come on down and hang out. La Muse, a surf contest by women for women, is sponsored by The Store, Faithful to Nature and Skoon. Plastic free partners at Muizenberg are Xpression on The Beach, Rollingwood Surf and Skate, Hang Ten Café and Bootlegger.
