Small, contestable surf provided the ideal conditions for the Tag Team format used in a tournament that saw 130 competitors of all ages representing schools from as far afield as Cape Agulhas. After the successful 2019 Surf League programme run by the Surf Emporium during the year, the Interschool Championships brought the school surf contest season to a fitting conclusion.

The format of the event was teams of five surfers each surfing in a relay format over a set period of time. The youngest competitor was five-year-old Sydney Daniels of the Zoetendal Akademie in Cape Agulhas. Zoetendal Akademie, who entered two teams, and surfers from Bredasdorp Junior and Senior Schools took four hours to get to Muizenberg, spent nine hours at the contest and then took four hours to get back home - the Bredasdorp seniors will wear their silver medals from the Plate Final with pride.

There were also teams from Capricorn Park, Masiphumele, girls' teams from St Cyprians and Herschel, teams from Melkbosstrand and Somerset West, and strong teams from Reddam Constantia and Reddam Atlantic, Camps Bay, Llandudno, Generations Noordhoek, Westerford and Ambleside.
