What!? Another Shark?

Tuesday 19 July 2017 When will the drama end after a white shark decided to cruise through the lineup in the quarters of the Corona Open J-Bay? Here's seven major dramas so far this year.

Drama 7: Saaark!

FANNING THE FIRE: What is it about Mick Fanning and sharks? The quarters went on hold when a 3m white shark was spotted in the lineup two years to the day after Fanning's scary brush with a shark at the same event. Must have been very eerie for Fanning. The quarters resumed after the shark slowly swam away. The day ended with the incredible heat between Portuguese rookie Frederico Morais, who pulled off a 10 to pull the win from under John John Florence, which probably makes it eight (dramas).

Drama 6: Jordy's Resurf

MR GRUMPY: No wonder he looks a bit grumpy. Jordy had to resurf his Round 5 heat with Conner Coffin after the judges announced they had 'missed' one of the American's waves when they surfed against each other the first time. Any fan fears subsided fast when the big guy smashed a 9,37 and his third 10 of the event.

Drama 5: The Surfing Boat

RUBBER DUCKIE: A huge set wave caught the safety boat unawares and it had to literally surf its way out of danger. Check the ous ducking for their lives in the boat. Super sketchy! But pretty cool comeback.

Drama 4: The Toledo Show

ROCKET ELF: Felipe Toledo was on fire in Round 5 today with a 9.00 point ride and a perfect 10.00 point ride for two massive aerials on one wave in the pumping surf. He comes up against Jordy in the next quarter-final. A huge swell is on the way, with all-time conditions likely to sweep through the iconic pointbreak tomorrow.

Drama 3: The Jordy Double

10 x 10: Jordy made history yesterday when he smashed two 10s for the 10th perfect heat in history, and the first time this has ever been achieved at JBay.

Drama 2: Mako Stoppage

BREACH BREACH!: A breaching mako 100 metres behind the backline at Supers put a temporary stop to Round 4. Of course Julian Wilson had to be surfing in the heat at the time. Little did he know that his Aussie mate Fanning was going to be in the Round 5 heat when the white shark decided to pop by. You will remember they were the ones in the water in the final when Fanning was buzzed by a thrashing white shark on the exact same date in 2015.

Drama 1: Kelly's Foot

KELLY'S INJURY: Kelly broke three bones in his foot and has flown home for surgery. His foot basically folded back on itself when his board got pumped backwards inside a tube at the aptly named Boneyards, the outside section up the point at Supertubes.

Bonus Ball

WILKO: Okay it wasn't a drama. But the colours are nice. And it's from today. And he is the current #1 in the world.
