Shootout window opens
Friday 10 August 2012 The waiting period for the invitational Kalk Bay Shootout has begun. This year, an innovative format has been introduced, with surfers and bodyboarders in the water at the same time - bridging the gap and sharing the love.

The kalk Bay Shootout has been running since them good ol’ days of the early 90’s. Since then, some things have changed, and others have stayed the same. The car parks been given a make over, the old tree ripped up, and the tradition of watching the surf from and jumping over the old brick wall is no more. There's now a wire fence to jump, some cool benches to watch the surf from, and some nifty new gardens. Change, for better or for worse, but change none-the-less.
The contest is also changing-its growing-and in a positive light. Initially a bodyboarding contest, this years Shootout includes the whole community, both bodyboarders and surfers alike. Because as different as our wave riding approaches are, the pure stoke of getting barrelled at your local always remains the same.
The Contest, like all surf contests these days falls within a waiting period to ensure that it is held in the best possible conditions. The waiting period kicks off today, 10 August and ends on the 1st of October. There is a small possibility that it will run as early as this weekend as the Cape is about to have the full wrath of winter unleashed on her. If it doesn’t we have entered the window where Kalk Bay is awake and very much alive and the potential for a solid perfect day is just begging to happen.
Keep an eye on the official event page on facebook
We will also announce the green light and undates via the wavescape facebook page

Everyone is welcome to pull in; Kalk Bay offers so much in a viewing pleasure! Find a table at the Bell, watch while scouring for antiques at Jeff Ross’s shop or warm up and re-energise from OURS coffee Shop and Bakery just over the road.
