The Night Harvest

Saturday 03 March 2012 On Friday 24 February, the Potato Trails in Hout Bay played host to the first annual Night Harvest, a dirt jumping festival and all round good evening out for action sport junkies. Robin Taylor got the photos and John Human provided the words.

Around 400 Spectators attended the first ever Night Harvest that was sponsored by Monster Energy, Salvo Bikes, Unit Clothing and Skull Candy Headphones to watch bmx'ers and mountain bikers from all over the country bust out and pull mad stunts through a magically designed dirt jump course. The sound track for the evening was provided by  Drum n Bass deck spinner, DJ Deeziaak.

At about 20:15, with everyone used to the trails and pumped up the lights were switched on and after a quick patch up on the jumps and the competition started!

The competition got heated quickly, with everyone wanting to win the cash prize. The bmx'ers were on the money, with highlights such as David Rigby backflipping the first jump, Malcolm Peters 360's off the dop off and Greg Illingworth 360ing everything in sight, including a MASSIVE 450 over the big hip. The mountain bikers also went off, with Niclas Reichwen tricking every jump, and Roman Kumpers attempting a backflip on the first jump.

The competition on the line was supposed to end at 9, but the riders decided otherwise and only stopped at about 21:30.

Everyone then moved over to watch the trick jump competition.

All the riders who took part in it went off, all wanting their share of the cash prize. The competition between the mountainbikers was heated, with Justin Novella pulling awesome supermans, Julien de Marigny with big 360's and the standout Roman Kumpers again, with backflips, tuck nohander backflips and tailwhip attempts.

Unfortunately most of the bmxer's injured themselves but there were still backflips and other trick's a plenty, but Malclom Peters showed his love for the trick jump, with 360 double tail whips, 360 tables, 360 tuck no handers and for the first time ever, a triple tail whip!
