The Llandudno Boardriders' “Llands Locals” presented by Reef Wetsuits saw Hout Bay and Llandudno’s top local surfers, longboarders, kneeboarders, lifesavers, and bodyboarders of all shapes and sizes take part in the annual surf community event.

More than 120 contestants dressed in a Hawaiian theme were greeted with icy 3-4 foot pea green and aqua blue Atlantic barrels opposite the amphitheatre at the Llandudno Surf Lifesaving club, one of the coolest vantage points to watch surfing.

A homely vibe emanated from the grass of the verge and the sandy white beach as spectators chilled while the Llandudno Lifesaving Club kitchen provided the sweet smells of bacon burgers and coffee in the morning. Festivities continued through the day set to kiff tunes.

Twelve categories were contested and 12 winners crowned at the end of the day. Standouts included Sasha Specker, Ethan Fletcher, Miles Masterson, Luke Slijpen, Greg Torrington, Mary Slijpen, Caroline Brown and many more.

Half way through the day the Open semis had a barrel fest with Logan Eales, Luke Snyman and Luke Slijpen dropping near-perfect scores. Massive screams came from the paddle battle and Malibu race next to to the surf site where Ladies Maisy Weston webb came 3rd overall and making the ladies Surfing final.

But it was definetly a Luke Slijpen day, just getting back from WSL junior in Taiwan as he took out the U20 division and Open mens final.

Epic times were had by all.
