Rolling Retro Rolls Over to 29th

Wednesday 11 March 2020 A forecast for small waves, chilly weather and a pumping southeasterly gale has forced organisers of the Rolling Retro to postpone the event to Sunday 29 March.

After a chat with Spike, Kai Linder opted to move the event to the 29th based on his experience in calling the event in the rolling rights and spitting lefts of Llandudno. After looking at various forecasts, Linder said there were "gapping winds from early in the morning. There is predominantly SSE swell, which is not good for Llandundno. There is a small little west swell coming in but the problem is when the wind is pushing through it's going to degrade that swell."

The idea of course is for improving conditions for the finals and afternoon surfing. Another issue was the cool, cloudy weather forecast, which was not great for the many fans keen to come hang out at the beach and around the Llandudno Lifesaving shack. The backup date was not next Sunday 22 because of Ultimate X, and the lifesaving championships scheduled then.

Here's a little documentary about how Lightning Bolt was formed back in the day, just to add to the anticipation of this increasingly popular retro surfing event. Enter at www.zigzag.co.za
