There's a few things that are cool about this flash event that runs on the same course as the Sokkie Jol earlier in the day. Wayne de Lange, director of Silver Bullet Productions, has invited everyone to pull in to see why.

First of all, it's actually a TV commercial shoot for Arbor, a new skateboard brand that is coming into South Africa. Second, 15 skateboarders (including some of the best in SA) will wear strips of amazingly bright LED down their legs, arms, over helmets and even on skateboards as they tear up the downhill course at speed. Third, there is going to be smoke effects and car headlights shining downhill from cars parked at 45 degrees to the rum line.

Wayne skeems that it's a world first, not so much by virture of the individual elements of the evening, but because "We are bringing all these elements together and doing it properly".

"It's going to be quite a spectacle," Wayne says.

"Basically we are setting up a shoot for Arbor, a new skate brand that is coming into South Africa. So come check it out while we do our shoot."

And the other kiff thing is that the audience will most likely end up being in the ad, almost like extras.

"We are creating quite a vibe. Red Bull DJs are playing. It's an excuse to have fun. Skating in the dark."

Smoke and Mirrors takes place as the sun sets, and will last about 2hours. It features some of South Africa’s most progressive skateboarders putting on a truly visual experience. If you're in J-Bay you will have noticed an upswing in the skate crowd. Guys like Andrew Nero, from Africaskate, have pulled in too.

See you on Friday 12 June (tomorrow), starting at 5.00pm in Sable Street, Jeffreys Bay.
