ON STRATEGY

Take one heat at a time, have good wave selection, have fun and try my best!

ON CLOSE CALLS

Each heat was pretty tough, especially because of the small wave conditions. My semifinal with Dylan, Steff and Ethan Pentz was quite a close heat. I just managed to get through behind Dylan, who smashed that heat.

ON THE STANDOUTS OF THE EVENT

Lots of people were surfing really well, such as Dylan Lightfoot, Slade, Max Armstrong, Jordy Maree, Steff Burrows...

ON THE STACKED FINAL

I gave myself a small chance, but thinking about beating Dyl, Slade and Max was quite an impossible thought. So I tried not to think who was in the heat and rather just surf it like any other heat, making the best of the waves that came through.

ON KNOWING THAT BOTH SLADE AND DYLAN ALREADY HAD SUPERTRIAL SLOTS

I had been told that and it was in the back of my mind that all I had to do was beat Max.

ON LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

It definitely helped a lot. In the final everyone hustling quite far up the point, so I tried to get one or two wider ones to start off the heat. After I knew I had two scores I went to try get on the inside position.

ON THAT AIR IN THE FINAL

When I took off on that wave I could see it had a nice section down the line and I thought I might as well try to punt. I was pretty stoked when I landed the air.

ON WINNING A SLOT IN THE JBU Supertrial

I have been really wanting to get into that, so it definitely means a lot! It is such an amazing opportunity and will be a great experience.
