Boogers Head to Head
Monday 04 April 2011 The sleepy fishing town of Lamberts Bay again plays host to the Kumba West Coast Classic that will see South Africa’s best bodyboarders go head to head from the 7-10 April on a stretch of coastline that boast some of the most impressive ledges, reefs and sandbars in South Africa, according to the press release.
To surf perfect left and right reef break on a deserted coast is something all body boarders dream of. At last year’s Kumba West Coast Classic, the waves were nothing short of perfect for the event on debut in the SABA calendar.
Kumba - supplier of iron ore to the global steel industry and member of the Anglo American plc group - works with partners like Boland Bodyboarding to promote sports and recreation, health and wellness to promote positive, mutually beneficial outcomes in areas where it operates.
REEF South Africa, will be the main product sponsor of the 5A rated SABA event, further enriched with brands like Science, Viper Fins and others. The familiar Coca-Cola truck will provide entertainment, bringing out the DJ in all of you.
The earlier dates this year are better suited to the West Coast, but an extra day has been added to the window period, just in case. The same area - Lamberts Bay and south - will be utilised.
Last year’s Pro division and World Tour competitor Mark McCarthy will not be able to attend to defend his title so this year’s Pro division title is up for grabs.
A development clinic will be held and to those who attended last year will know what it means to the local kids for a chance to enjoy the ocean and the waves like we do.
