Jordy Goes for Gold

Tue 5 March 2013 A break from all forms of serious competition can do a man a world of good. Jordy Smith looks slim, trim and full of surfing, writes Craig Jarvis for Red Bull from the Quiksilver Pro Goldcoast.

A recent trip to a secret African destination with good friend Chad Du Toit was all the training that Jordy Smith needed for the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, the first event of the World Championship tour 2013. No better way to train for Snapper by surfing a perfect right-hand sand-bottom point-break that delivers endless warm water walls. Word filtering out from that trip was that Jordy was showing the fire in his belly, and used the opportunity to perfect a new power hook, perfectly suited to the waves of the Superbank.

The Australian experience started off with the ASP Awards banquet, where world champions were applauded and world champions–to-be looked on with a touch of desire and possibly a touch of determination for the year to come.
