Fast and Furious
Wed 6 March 2013 The surfing was fast, new moves were being pushed to their logical extremes, and no one was holding back with Jordy one of the master blasters, writes Craig Jarvis from the Quiksilver Pro Goldcoast.


It was the final heat of the opening day of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, and it had been a long day filled with top end surfing and some crazy new moves. The first day of the first contest of the year is always going to be exciting, and the surfers were making no bones about the fact that they were there to impress, they were there to win.
Jordy Smith vs Glenn ‘Micro’ Hall vs CJ Hobgood. The two goofy-footers against the natural footer. The waves at Rainbow Bay were a bit fat, to be fair, and it was looking like it might even be advantageous to be a goofy out there, to have the ability to pivot off the top on the sloping waves.
As if to prove a point, Glenn Hall picked up the first wave and the rookie totally smashed it to the beach.
