Festival approaching
Wednesday 3 July 2013 Jeffreys Bay - The waiting period for the Jeffreys Bay Open Of Surfing is imminent, and the top surfers in the country are getting ready to battle it out at one of the best waves in the world, Supertubes in Jeffreys Bay.

The waiting period is 9-13 July, the surfers have been invited and the list of invited surfers can be found on the event Facebook Fanpage Jeffreys Bay Open Of Surfing. There are few surprises, with the cream, of South African surfing as well as a few international guests, making up the field of 64.
Apart from the R30,000 first prize for the men's division and the R5,000 first prize for the women's division, there are also a number of specialty prize categories.
Nixon South Africa have announced that they will be giving away a magnificent Nixon Magnacon watch in their Winner Takes All event to be run during the Jeffreys Bay Open. The WTA is an award that will be going to the Best Tube Ride of the entire event, and the Magnacon is valued at R9000.
VonZipper South Africa will reward the surfer who pulls off the Best Air of the event with a VonZipper product pack.
DaKine have put up a prize for the surfer who performs the Most Progressive Move of the event.
Sector9 will be awarding a longboard skateboard and a product pack to the surfer who performs the Best Carve on the walls of Supers in the event.
The Best Wave of the event in the men's division will receive a FireWire Surfboard, and the Best Wave of the women's divison will also receive a FireWire Surfboard, both proudly sponsored by Cheron Kraak and Country Feeling Surf Shop.
In addition to the main event, there will be a FFFF Friction Free Session, a demonstration of surfing without fins, orchestrated by friction free exponent Derek Hynd from Australia. Hynd has developed his friction free skills on the waves of Supertubes over the last few seasons and will lead this demonstration. Derek will be joined by a few hand-picked local surfers and possibly a few international guests.
The Jeffreys Bay Open Of Surfing has a waiting period from 9 - 13 July and forms the anchor for the JBay Winter Fest, a festival of sports set to take place in and around Jeffreys Bay from 6 - 14 July. As well as the surfing tournament there will be a skateboarding event, a mountain biking race, a trail run and a cold water swim.
There will be a surfer gathering and heat draw for the Jeffreys Bay Open Of Surfing at the Mexican Restaurant on the 8th July at 7pm.
The tournament is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa. Surfing South Africa is recognised by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) as the governing body of the sport in South Africa.
