According to media reports, a Californian teenager was arrested for allegedly making terrorist threats against the US Open of Surfing.  Huntington Beach police were taking no chances after a fatal university shooting in California (warned of by the gunman on social media) when they arrested the 16-year-old. Apparently, New York police found "dark and disturbing" social media comments, including photos of the teen holding guns, and alerted their California counterparts. Police seized a pistol and shotgun at his home, US media reported.

The Vans US Open of Surfing is the third of eight ASP Prime rated Qualification Series (QS) events on the 2014 calendar, offering crucial points towards surfer’s rankings.

The Vans US Open of Surfing runs from July 26 through August 3, 2014 and is webcast LIVE via www.usopenofsurfing.com and www.aspworldtour.com
