A unique selection of eight artist-decorated sneakers, a surfboard by Brett Murray and a seascape painting by Jake Aikman are for sale online at the festival's Instagram feed WavescapeSA, with bids taking place in the comments section, or via DM, or for the crusty old farts out there who are not on social media, via email to shani@wavescape.co.za.

Proceeds go to selected ocean charities NSRI, Shark Spotters, 9 Miles Project, Ocean Pledge and The Beach Co-op. Instead of Artboards for the Artboard Project this year, Wavescape decided on Artshoes, which are decorated by Alice Lazarus, Amy-Lee Tak, Jade Klara, Lionel Smit, Manuela Gray, Max Goldin, Nola Muller, Russell Abrahams and Terence Kitching. Artists took deilivery of blank VANS sneakers to use as their canvas, with octopus a popular subject this year (we wonder why?).

Jake Aikman donated South Atlantic II, a seascape painting, while Brett Murray summed up the year brilliantly on his short performance surfboard with Goofy not very happy with the Covid Pandemic in 2020. The starting bid for the shoes is R800, but some are already on more than R2,000, while Brett's board is sitting on R10,000 while Jake's painting is on R4,000. Go on Instagram now to pick up some bargains for some of South Africa's most celebrated artists.
