Hawaiian Highs

Thursday 12 March 2017 A goodly contingent of Saffas are contesting the QS10,000 Hawaiian Pro, which is the first event in the Vans Triple Crown. Here's the photo highlights from Round 1 at Haleiwa, North Shore.

Dylan Lightfoot and Beyrick van Zyl dropped out in Round 1, but Davey van Zyl and Adin Masencamp are through to Round 2, where they will be joined by Matt McGillivray whose QS ranking enables his entry in Round 2. A good result could get him on the CT next year.

The 2018 CT surfers come in at Round 3, including Jordy Smith and Mikey February. Sadly for Mikey, he can't get back on the CT next year, but he's just scored a sweet deal with Vans for the next five years, and in terms of career and lifestyle, it doesn't really matter if he makes it or not, which could just relieve the pressure that prevented success this year.
