Have a Swell Christmas!
Wednesday 24 December 2014 Wavescape wishes you a swell Christmas and a barrelling New Year, and that wish comes true in the Cape from tomorrow when Santa starts delivering a 4 day feast of festive gifts, peaking Boxing Day.

All along the SW Cape and S Cape coasts, the swell jacks Christmas Day, so try and sneak a few hours from the merriment and frivolity to snag a few nugs cuz. In Cape Town, Muizies will fire with the south direction in the swell and fresh NW winds predicted, with plenty reefs also lighting up if the wind is not too strong, which it may be, alas.
Along the Saldanha to Agulhas coast, Boxing Day looks even bigger with a proper almost big wave swell running 10-12' or more at deep water bommies. In Cape Town, the wind looks mild SE going strong, so hook it early. Happy days!
However, watch a Christmas Day double-edged sword, because in the Southern Cape and Eastern Cape, the Christmas Day swell arrives with a schtonking SW buster, ripping through with gusts to neargale around the Cape Agulhas to PE stretch of coast. The wind blows less the further up towards the Wild Coast you go, where it looks NE at first before the west comes thro.
Further up into Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Christmas surf is smaller, an open coast 4' swell building in arvi to maybe 5' and the wind is a lot milder, with a NE effect giving way to a moderate or fresh SSW breeze. Watch Boxing Day for the East Coast cos there is real juice in the swell! If the winds play ball, should be going off 6' or more at many spots.
