Grom Fest

Mid-June is a great time for powerful, early winter south west swells to come grinding down the Jeffreys Bay points. Coupled with the predominant south west offshore winds, the contest - from 13 to 15 June - is almost guaranteed to have excellent surf.

The divisions for the event are as such: Boys U10, U12, U14, U16 and U20, and Girls U16 and U20. Apart from all the high-action junior surfing set to take place at this tournament, there will be a lot more happening down at the Lower Point. Here are some of the exciting side- attractions.

Red Bull Paddle Battle Challenge
Red Bull will be putting on a special challenge for the junior surfers with the Red Bull Paddle Battle competition, where the aim is to paddle up the beach, and sprint back down again. The fastest combination of paddling and running will win themselves a flight to anywhere in South Africa.

Spraymate Paint Jam
Spraymate are sponsoring hundreds of cans of paint for the surfers and their siblings to go wild in an expression-session paint jam throughout the contest. Always popular, this element of the event makes for a literal splash of colour on the proceedings.

Family Braai Night
After enjoying an epic day of surfing and hanging out on the beach on Saturday night, all the competitors and their families can chill, enjoy a braai with boeries, and watch some live music at Lower Point.

Other brands that are going to be joining in the fun at Lower Point, and supporting junior surfing in South Africa along with RVCA are Red Bull, Stance, Firewire, Futures Fins, Havaianas, Nixon, Rayne Cameras and Zigzag Magazine.

The RVCA Junior Challenge is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa. Surfing South Africa is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), and recognised by the Dept. of Sport and Recreation as the national controlling body for surfing.
