Green Light for SUP Record
Thursday 2 July 2015 Hellman Chris Bertish just told us that his #24hrSUP world record will start at 4pm today, when he starts paddling. He stops tomorrow same time, or earlier if he reaches the 170km mark before that.

Bertish just informed us that it's “All systems GO for the 24hr open ocean SUP world record attempt! Green light for today 2nd July 2015 in Vilanculos, Mozambique. The current World Record is 157km/24hrs. My goal: 170km/24hrs."
Chris will use a personal locator beckon (PLB) which will transmit his GPS coordinates every 10 minutes to a tracking map at http://chrisbertish.com/projects/24-hour-world-record/ and there will be updates on Twitter: @Chris_Bertish #24hrSUP
Let's hope its 3rd time lucky for the Mavericks Big Wave Invitational Champion who had to abort his first two attempts earlier this year due to extreme weather, sea and safety concerns, when the elements got too dangerous. This time Chris will avoid the wild west coast of South Africa and the Cape of Storms, but will do it in the Marine Sanctuary of Vilanculos, Mozambique.

“We have learnt a great deal from the last two attempts and realized that the Cape of Storms, the weather, wind and the sea and air temperature is to cold and elements are too wild, unpredictable and dangerous to complete the 24hr Open Ocean record successfully down in the Cape waters, so we have moved the attempt to warmer, more tropical climates to minimize the risk, find more manageable and predictable conditions, in order to make it safer, make it a success and ensure both I and my team come home safe, happy and in one piece,” he explained.
The Miles for Smiles initiative that Bertish is raising awareness and funds for, have facilitated 2000 corrective surgeries.
