GoPro Local Hero Film Contest
Win more than R40,000 in Wavescape, GoPro, Fox and Empire Cafe hampers by submitting a short movie to the Go Pro Local Hero Film Contest. Enter using these four simple steps. Your submission will be reviewed and published on Wavescape. Then get Facebook friends to Like your video (40% of the judges' decision). RULES
- The competition closed on Wednesday November 30
- Video must be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in length.
- Content of the video should contain footage of any adventure or extreme sport involving gravity, for example surfing, mountain biking, skateboarding, snowboarding, climbing, motocross. We reserve the right to decide what constitutes an extreme or adventure sport. There is no such thing as extreme tiddly winks.
- Your movie can be a “scripted” fiction story, or a “documentary style” film, or simple some high octane action set to cool music. The only prerequisite is that it must be shot with a GoPro and contain action sequences.
- No profane language, violence, sex or personal attacks on people or organisations.
- Do not violate copyright laws or use brand names or logos other than Wavescape or GoPro in your video.
- You agree to indemnify Wavescape and Omnico (GoPro distributors in SA) for any claim, demand, judgment, or other allegation arising from your possible violation of someone's trademark, copyright, or other legally protected interest in your video.
- Your video may not contain any endorsement, solicitation, commercial, or similar content advocating for or against candidates for office, political issues, or commercial products.
- Your video must be original content.
- Videos must be QuickTime/MOV, WMV, MPEG or AVI and submitted to Wavescape.co.za via the entry form on the ENTER page.
- Try to limit the file size where possible. Huge files take a long time to upload.
- Obtain permission from people featured in your video via release forms if necessary.
- You must be able to provide Wavescape with the original video file if you win. If you can't, you will be disqualified and the next closest entry will win.
- Videos that are submitted without an entry form will not be judged.
- By entering the contest, you grant Wavescape and Omnico a perpetual, royalty-free license to use your video, in any media, as content, including as a film in the Wavescape Surf Film Festival in 2011
- You grant Wavescape permission to edit, modify, format, or adapt your video for our purposes at our sole discretion.
- If you want to remove your video from the competition, you may do so by asking Wavescape to delete your video from its competition prior to the deadline for entries on Wednesday 30 November. There is no limit on the number of videos you may submit.
- To be eligible you must be a citizen or permanent resident of South Africa. Children 13 years or younger must have parents' approval. Employees of Wavescape, GoPro, Omnico, and their relatives are not eligible to enter the contest.
JUDGING
- After the contest closes on Wednesday 30 November, Round One of the process involves the videos previewed by Wavescape to ensure they present accurate information and comply with the requirements of the contest. Those videos that do not comply will be disqualified.
- All other videos will advance to Round Two where the videos will be rated by a panel of judges from Wavescape and other experts in filmmaking based on creativity and entertainment value. The judging takes place from Thursday 1 to Wednesday 5 December.
- A winner will be selected and notified by email on or about 5 December 2011.
- 60% of the judging will be decided on by a panel of judges, while 40% of the selection will come down to Facebook LIKES on the video that is automatically published onto Wavescape after you upload it (and we moderate it). The more Facebook Likes on your video, the higher your score.

PRIVACY
- The personal information you submit on the entry form will only be used to contact you in the event you win the contest or if there is a question or issue regarding your video or its content. We will not disclose, give, sell, or transfer any personal information about you, unless required for law enforcement or by statute. As your video will be made available to the public, you should not include personal information about yourself or anyone else. All information collected on the entry form will be deleted at the conclusion of the contest. Wavescape is using YouTube to host the videos for this contest. You are subject to YouTube's use, privacy, cookie, and security provisions also.
