Here are just a few family friendly surfing locations around the world:

Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
The Spanish owned Canaries are an excellent choice all year round. There’s consistent surf and great weather. There are a number of family friendly hotels near waves – ideal if you want to head out with the kids. Make sure that your entire family has their European health insurance cards from ukehic if you’re an EU Citizen, so you can be protected in the event of a medical emergency during your surfing trip.

Ericeira, Portugal
Ericeria has even been voted as one of the best surfing destinations in the world, but with some seasons offering tamer waves, this isn’t always a popular destination for experienced surfers all year round. This makes it an ideal spot for family-friendly surfing though in the off-season, you're more likely to be doing tourist stuff than surf. The waves start appearing in the northern hemisphere Autumn after a flat summer.

Hahei Beach, New Zealand
If you’re looking for some flatter waves, then Hahei Beach is the perfect solution for the family in New Zealand. Hahei offers a nice right-hand reef break, which makes it a great spot for a number of different skill levels in the family. In addition to this, around 15 minutes south of Hahei, there is Hot Water Beach. This is a truly interesting beach to visit, which can allow you to have your own thermal spa if you dig deep enough into the sand!

Indonesia
Indonesia is a very well-known surf destination, and some of the best surfing spots in the world are located here. Not all are death-defying coral slabs that threaten to flail the skin right off your body. You are spoiled for choice. There’s a number of protected beaches to explore too, and plenty of culture away from the beach that your family is certain to love. However, the long-haul trip isn’t necessarily the best choice for younger children, so it’s worth keeping this in mind when planning your family friendly surf trip.

Maldives
If you have a lot of money to splash, you’re looking for a consistent but often smaller swell, and some excellent beginner spots, the Maldives is ideal. There are excellent family resorts that can cater for everyone, a number of surf rental options, crystal clear waters and a sense of luxury that you can’t get anywhere else. With beautiful tropical weather all year round, this really is a paradise on Earth like no other – perfect for family surfing – and building brownie points with your partner.
