Conglomeration of Groms

Wednesday 25 September 2019 When the better scoring waves are lefts, be assured the waves are not firing in the classic sense of "firing Jbay". Craig Jarvis reports on today's action at the SA Junior Champs.

The onshore picked up all day until it was gusting hard, and freezing everyone and every thing that stood in its way. Except for the groms. They don’t seem to get cold, they just go on and on and on. Surfing, cheering, eating and laughing.

Lower Point in JBay is such a classic venue, and it has the perfect little amphitheatre, ideal setting and a nice and chilled vibe for all. It is conducive to team events as it breaks close enough in, especially at high tide, for the cheering to take on a more personal level.

At this the 23rd SA Junior Champs there will be eight South African titles and the Freedom Cup at stake, and there will also be about 200 losers. It's not about that however. It’s about the kids having a good time, about surfing as a team sport and about team spirit and support.

The event runs through until Sunday when there will be a prize giving on the beach afterwards.

All the heat draws will be published on www.liveheats.com/surfingsouthafrica and the heats and contest schedule are posted on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za
