Why do you rip one wave to pieces and then bog the next one like a kook? How does your board work when you are turning? What do you need to do to improve your surfing once you have reached a certain level?

These are just some of the questions answered when you attend a special workshop called Surfing Training with Clayton Nienaber. After years of working with boards and surfers Clay has developed a program that tackles problems surfers often deal with. Hitting a plateau and can't rise above it. This is normal and it's where a little guidance can make the world of difference.

Clayton is a shaper from Durban. He started training people how to surf properly when they would come to him and say the board isn't going properly for some or other reason. Because of this he would go surfing with the guys and often find that thier body positioning  was wrong and that was affecting how the board performed. So he has developed a course that helps people realise how thier boards work and how they should be surfing in order to the get the most out of it.  Basic changes to improve thier surfing. He has been so successful with the course that he has started to be flown to Portugal, Spain, Indo and other places to give groups of surfers training on how to perform at thier best.

Surfing South Africa has recommended the training and they use it on the Springbok Surfing team to get the best performance from the guys.

What is great is that it works for all levels of surfing. Surfers do some theory on waves, boards and themselves then the fun starts with the practical which includes finless surfing, helmets with microphones to get feedback while you are on the wave. There is also video analysis and some surfing fitness thrown into the mix.

Clayton will be in Cape Town on the 8th and 9th of September at Lifestyle Surfshop. The training starts at 9 am and costs R 500 for the two days.

There are only 20 places available so please book now through Lifestyle Surf Shop 021 788 8218 or Neil Zietsman 082 554 2674
