No bubbles Bong
Wed 17 August 2011 Our new blogger Bongani recounts the first time feeling of leaving the bubbles behind and heading out back to where the green waves break. Can you recall the first time you paddled out?

‘On Paddling out for the first time’…
We love doing it; if we could we would do it all day long. There is only one strategy for us and that is to go waist deep and wait until the lull appears, thereafter all hell breaks lose.
We can’t always surf on the bubbles and it’s time to progress onto the green waves. It is amazing being at the line-up; there is a great sense of euphoria upon arrival after all our paddling proved triumphant. Being right at the back and witnessing were all of the big waves start forming it’s just enough to send chills down your spine. I remember my first time at the back it was quite scary but all the panic was conquered after receiving assurance that my community was watching my back.
If I turn all our surfing progress into a metaphor for life, it will be directly linked with peer pressure and goals. Without making the right decisions in life there won`t be any progress or sense of achievement. It is virtually essential to have a solid foundation of friends to trust and support you. Your friends will be there to help you make the right decisions. In life there are lots of obstacles that will prevent you from achieving your goals. Isiqalo is here to help us all in making the right choices in order to achieve our goals in life.
It is up to us to go out as leaders and share our knowledge in the communities we live in. Community awareness is important in order to ensure everyone lives a better lifestyle and success within the community will eliminate the dangers like HIV, crime, poverty and drug usage.
Therefore it is safe to say the future and change of the community lies with us.
