According to Surfblanks South Africa, who have just launched their 2013 foam series, these blanks meet the needs of serious surfers who demand boards that perform at the highest level.

The Surfblanks Superwhite foam has a "new Superstrong Formula" after six months of research and development. The foam has a compression strength that may be twice that of any other foam available anywhere in the world. "As huge a claim as this appears, after trials, it is very clear that this foam has no equal."

The appearance of the matt white foam is "very fine celled" with high strength that is "extremely resistant to thumb test at relative density".

EVOLUTION OF THE POLYURETHANE FOAM BLANK

At the heart of every conventional surfboard is the polyurethane foam blank. This has been the case for more than 50 years. Over the years the process of making or blowing foam has been refined to a point that there are available today, foam blanks that use complex molecular structure to purposely provide enhanced surfing characteristics. Characteristics like 'flex with memory', prolonged whiteness and ultra fine cell structures that allow for very low resin take up. Attributes that are of such a high standards that they provide a major step-up in surfboard technology. This has always been the requirement of all surfboard manufactures. Now these enhancements have been achieved and delivered like never before by Surfblanks.

40 YEARS OF FOAM TECHNOLOGY

Midget Farrelly, winner of the first ever World Surfing Championships  in 1964 and, the founder of Surfblanks, is widely recognised as one the sport's most respected surfers of all time. Four decades ago he started Surfblanks and over the years, Midget has refined and now totally defined the core values of the surfboard blank, culminating in a product that is the benchmark of this technology globally.

Surfblanks South Africa, owned and managed by Max Wetteland,  SA's first international surfing competitor and  master shaper who has mentored many of South Africa's recognised shapers, has been producing Surfblanks under licence from Surfblanks Australia, for the local and international market, for more than 20 years and many of the premier global surfboard brands will use no other blanks as a core to their boards.

Internationally renowned shaper Peter Daniels says “I've used Surfblanks right from the start. I've seen every improvement. I'm blown away by the new blanks.

Travis Cooper who manages production at the Surfblank's Durban factory says “The 2013 foam that we are currently delivering to customers is the best we've ever produced. By far. It's that good.”

SO WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?

Well you might ask, how does this help me – the surfer. The answer is simple – superior performance. How? With a stronger, lighter blank, the strength to weight ratio and the 'flex with memory' attributes, a board with a Surfblanks core will give you that extra edge when you need it in critical situations. The other big pluses that you get from the 2013 foam is that your board will 'dent' less easily and will stay white throughout the whole of summer and beyond.
