Beach Raid Scores
Monday 17 January 2011 It was a smoking hot day at Long Beach on Saturday as the DVS Wavescape Beach Raid hit the shoreline - in more ways than one.

The surf was firing 4-6', the summer sun baked down, the crowds were busting, and the surfing moves in the southeaster-chilled Atlantic waters were off the charts.
A thick 10' groundswell was blasting out at Sunset, with Long Beach as close to being too big as it gets, but the sunshine, smooth offshores and thick waves lured hundreds to the beach and a cluster of probably 40-50 surf-staved surfers and boogers out at the break.
There was some hot surfing and good moves - even the ballies on their longboards were scoring epic rides, but young Jarred Veldhuis was the standout, pulling reverse airs, a few 360s and a couple of crazy snap turns in thumping sand-bar bombs.
Two boxes of DVS sandals and Tees vanished into the surf-stoked ether, and the action was watched for an hour as the word spread through the ranks, but it was that young grom Jarred who came out of the water to receive a cool thousand rand in hard cold cash. He struggled to comprehend what was going on when he came out the water, but when the truth dawned on him, he broke out in smiles.
Shot DVS he says.
