Makhubu topped up some good recent results in local contests in 2-3' surf at Bay of Plenty in this premier Surfing South Africa PST event, joining other winners Nicole Pallet of La Lucia (Open), Kirsty McGillivray of Jeffreys Bay (U18), and Sophie Bell of Umdloti (U16).
A stoked Makhubu beat another up and coming talent, Gabi Lailvaux of Westbrook, into second spot. Regular finalist Kayla Nogueira of Umhlanga was third and Summer Sutton of Kommetjie took the fourth spot.
The event, which is presented by Roxy and supported by Sport and Recreation SA, saw Pallet, the 2015 U20 SA Champion returned from competing in Australia a few days before the even. She was not suffering from jetlag, however, displaying a cool head and competitive experience to post a 9 point ride in the final. National Team members Faye Zoetmulder of Port Elizabeth and Tanika Hoffman of Hout Bay were second and third respectively. 2015 SA Junior Team member Chanelle Botha of Warner Beach was fourth.
