Who would have predicted the key role in sport played by Instagram, which the Rip Curl E-Pro uses to count votes from fans. Today, it's Round 4 Men, Women's Rd 1 and Rd 3 results.

It's getting busy at the Rip Curl E-Pro. Today, fans are voting for the winners of Round 4 Men, as well as the opening round for the women, by laying down their thoughts on the best surfer's Instagram feed. Check out https://www.surfwebseries.com/

The results of Round 3 also dropped today after some incredible rides dropped thick and fast, with high-performance waves combined with some excellent tube rides. Noticing the quality of some of the tube rides, the judges started making a note of a few of these waves for the Red Bull Best Tube Award of R10,000. This prize will go to the best tube ride submitted into the event, from either the men or the women.

Durban surfer Chad Du Toit has been showing great strategy throughout the event thus far, pacing himself with good rides, but always a little bit more in the bag. He won his round three heat comfortably, as did Gavin Roberts, with a serious East Coast barrel.

ONE FOR THE FUTURE? The event may be setting the platform for surfing forever.

Josh Redman and Davey Van Zyl, two more surfers from Durban, also revealed good tube rides to win their respective heats. Heat 5 saw two Eastern Cape surfers Don Zoetmulder and Dale Staples advance, The next heat saw the Cape Town duo and rivals Luke Slijpen and Eli Beukes both go through to round four.

It was two more Cape Town surfers Jordy Maree and Brad Scott who advanced in the final two heats, bring along Durban surfers Shane Sykes and Dan Redman along to the next round.

Today sees the round four take place, and there are some great waves lined up. It will also see the launch of the Rip Curl E-Pro Women’s event. This stand-alone event has been supported by the Kouga Municipality as part of Women's Month, and there are two local Kouga girls entered. Kai Woolf and Faye Zoetmulder have both been ripping and are looking good for the event.
