More than 100 surfers rode a wave at the Earthwave beach festival in Muizenberg, Cape Town on Sunday to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘most surfers riding the same wave’.

Ship drops in

Celeste Erasmus was at Table View beach in Capetown early this morning to take a daily photo of the surf for the website of Atlantic Surf Co. She got more than gale-force onshores and massive seas though. Sitting right there, in the line-up, was a huge ship! As she explained, the ship was right at the take off spot.

Some of the best biggest waves ridden around South Africa recently have not been at the usual suspects, such as Sunset and Dungeons. Sean Holmes and David Smith went exploring the other day and found what is arguably one of the gnarliest waves on our long and mysterious coastline. Generations Meet

Tuesday 14 July

It was a meeting of two surfing generations at the Cape Town Press Club at a restaurant in the suburb of Observatory today when Derek Jardine and Shaun Tomson touched base again many years after being Durban beachfront locals during different eras, writes Tony Heard, also a past local of Durban's South Beach.

From Weekend Post (www.weekendpost.co.za): Claremont surfer Paul Buckley was attacked by a shark on Monday July 7 while riding the waves in Jongensfontein in Stilbaai. He was rushed to a Mossel Bay hospital where a deep wound to his leg was stitched closed before he was discharged today (July 8).
