It was big wave carnage as South Africans Barry Mottershead and Jem Johnson, with a crew of Irish, British and Aussie lads, scored the beast they call Prowlers at a secret location on the west coast of Ireland. According to their mate Dan, Jem was on day one of a trip to Ireland, and Barry has been living in Ireland on and off for seven years. Conn Osborne was on hand to shoot these pics.

A chance discovery from a rescue helicopter years ago today culminated in a giant session at the massive wedging wave they have now named Prowlers. British surfer Andrew Cotton saw a wave break several years ago on board an Irish Coast Guard helicopter after being rescued in a surf accident off Mullaghmore, in County Sligo.

Surfers React to Tragedy

Several top surfers have spoken out about the tragic death of Andy Irons at a paddle out memorial service held in Porta Del Sol, site of the Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico, where it was unanimously decided to postpone the event until Friday.

AI Autopsy Inconclusive

Honolulu, Hawaii: As results of the autopsy on Andy Irons proved inconclusive, hundreds of fans and pro surfers held a memorial paddleout service in Porta Del Sol, Puerto Rico, yesterday.

Andy Irons is Dead

Andy Irons is dead. The three-times surfing world champion, 32, was found dead in a hotel room in Dallas, Texas, yesterday after withdrawing from the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico.
