Last Thursday, lifeguards saved 43 Aussie surfers as they sampled the vetkoek sent by Cyclone Oma, writes Spike, who hopes some of that sweet stuff swings by the SA east coast.

The Gold Coast was thick and heavy at the end of last week, with many Aussie surfers defying hazardous surf warnings (as you do). Between Noosa and Mooloolaba, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that lifesavers saves 43 surfers on Thursday.

Apparently Mooloolaba jacked to 13 metres on Friday, and for those who knew what they were doing, and surfed the right spots, there were epic waves, with legendary sessions going down at Kirra.

Oma has eased and is moving away from Queensland, taking a southeast turn. However, it merges with another tropical disturbance to prolong the run of swell a little longer.

PORKY POLA: This intense tropical cyclone is due to start peaking on Tuesday next week.

Meanwhile, an intense cyclone is due to start forming off the Solomon Islands on Saturday, and by Tuesday is forecast to deepen to 985mb with winds around the eye wall of up to 105kts. This storm looks set to bring another insane swell to the east coast of Australia from next week Wednesday or Thursday.

Seems like all the tropical storm action is off Australia at the moment. Lets hope Durban gets a piece soon.
