Come down to Muizenberg, near Cape Town, tomorrow to meet SA adaptive surfers, who include members of our national team who head to the World Champs in California this December.

KG The Surf Emporium Surf Lesson and Adaptive Surf Media Experience aims to create an awareness for Adaptive Surfing in South Africa. The short term goal is to provide greater access to more South Africans to increase the number of Adaptive Surfers. The long term goal is to unearth potential South African World Champions.

They have invited media to participate in this experience by learning to surf with adaptive surfers, or assisting in surf lessons with adaptive surfers. Roxy Davis of Surf Emporium has organised with celebrities and media influencers to spend part of the morning with adaptive surfers. The idea is they have to surf with them, but also surf like them!

Morne Morkel pairs up with Elsje Neethling, Nik Rabinowitz will surf with Danie Nel and Spike from Wavescape will pair up with his son Tyler. Later on, Ant Smyth, recent gold medal winner at the US Open Adaptive Surfing Champs in the USA, will be surfing with Dr Michael Mol. New adaptive signees will also be taught how to surf.

Top Right, Khangelu, aka KG, is a weekly attendee of adaptive surf sessions

The South African team comprises surfers who have competed at previous ISA World Adaptive Championships. Team members will compete in six categories.

The AS -1 Men are Antony Smyth (Western Cape), a gold medallist at the World Championships in 2016 and a silver medal winner at the event last year and J.P Veaudry (Eastern Cape), a bronze medal winner at the World Championships in 2016 and the 2018 South African Champion.

2017 SA team member Grace Anderson (Western Cape) is the AS -1 Women’s representative. Caleb Swanepoel and Tyler Pike are included in the AS - 2 category while Daniel Nel is the AS -4 representatives. All three are from the Western Cape. The AS -5 team member is Albert Rust of Gauteng and Erynn Geddie (KwaZulu-Natal) is included in the ASV -1 category.

Tasha Mentasti and Brett Gouveia (both Western Cape) have been appointed as Manager and Coach respectively.

PADDLE SOLACE: Elsje Neethling is just one of many adaptive surfers who love ocean therapy.

The Adaptive Day by Surf Emporium would like to invite:

1) The Media Community to come down and hear more about KG's story
2) Any media personalities who would like to join our team of influencers & surf with adaptive surfers
3) The public to get involved in volunteering in an Adaptive Surf Lesson for 15 adaptive surfers
4) Any adaptive surfer who would like to experience the joy of having a surf lesson
