Durban Fires

This morning, Durban dawned true to its name, Surf City, and Justin Klusener was up with the early birds as they gorged on a juicy cyclone swell that pours through from the east. The charts are calling it 10 feet at 12 seconds 96 degrees almost straight east. Epic.

Thurso Fires for CWC

Cranking, feathering cold water walls greeted the stoic workmen of the O'Neill Coldwater Classic, who immediately went about demolishing them with their rapid-fire wave tools. Thurso at her sublime best.

Paint it Black


Mon, 11 April 2011

Last Thursday, a black southeaster ripped thro the Cape Peninsula. False Bay rose to the occasion and Simone Robb captured the Kalk Bay contour. Standout was Paris Basson, an old local back after a decade of travel. He recently came 91st in the Cape Epic. Seems his surfing hasn’t suffered much while based in Oz.

A Special Swell

A perfect storm on 13 March brought a macking swell to the Cape on the 14th. Big wave veterans called it "special". Factory peaked late afternoon at 15-18' (with closeout sets). Sunset was 25'. Dungeons? Huge. The crew were all over it. Many photos feature Cape Epic and surfing dynamo Paris Basson (currently lying 61st out of 600). Slideshow shot by his partner, Carrie Ade.

Tracking Nahoon

St John Lombard profiles an overcast session at East London’s Nahoon Reef, the place where Shannon Ainslie got tag-teamed by two great whites a few years back. There’s often sharks spotted here, but it doesn’t stop those tough Slumtown locals from paddling out and getting shacked in pristine bombs.
