Muizenberg

Image

The Muizenberg webcam is situated above the Empire Cafe overlooking Surfer's Corner and gives you a bird's eye view of what the surf is doing. This webcam is managed and maintained by the good people at the Corner Surf Shop. The cam image is refreshed every four minutes, automatically if you have the page up.

i dont think the flag should be moved. the problem is really that while our tech advances in communication allow us to see whats happening live 10 km away. now this does one thing only, it kills the stoke factor (when abused), whats going happen is that the minute the flag goes green, 10 billion people will download on the break and begin fighting for waves, all claiming to be locals and all claiming to surf there every day. Now i may speak for myself but i enjoy rocking up at the berg , jostling for parking struggling into my wettie, and having the Alarm go off, it affords me the opportunity to drive our highly convoluted peninsula and search for something better (which is what i should of done in the first place), the options are endless. and yes i do sit at a desk for a living, but when the planets align and the berg is 4ft and clean (however rare that is) and there are very minimal crowds, it`s just so much better. but thats just me. the surf reports that spike has been posting are a great and accurate enough indication of what general conditions are. cheers okes

Just a thought - it would be great if they could move the "shark flag" in view of the webcam. Then at least one covers that aspect as well when judging the surf.L

I agree man.. The only prob;lem with that is that that flag pole is like fixed into the ground.. So i dont think they can mover it.. Just put another one up.. !

Or they could just be clever and swivel the cam head so that you can see the flag DUH!

yeah... kind of defeats the point if you cant see the waves. Im sure they have a good reason for putting the cam where it is.. so "swiveling" it isnt going to help.

well, the flag has been "black" whenever I go there, even there seems to be a good visibility. I think they don't want to take the risk anymore telling people there are no sharks. We know they are. You can call the lifestyle surf shop and the chaps are more than happy to let you the conditions, they also have surf report they post.

Maybe one of the numerous Surf Schools would be prepared to "sponsor" another flag pole.

is there a reason no-ones in water? shark flag maybe?

I surfed there today and was awesome! No idea why there weren't people as it was hectic busy at about 10am and seemed even more busy around 12 when I left.

Yeah, sounds good. Like the webcam on fish hoek beach that is video instead of stills, can roam in different directions and zoom in and out.
