The photograph of Long Beach in Kommetjie is taken between 6am and 8am and updated by 9am. The photographer waits for a set to indicate the ambient swell in the ocean. Bear in mind that west to SW swell must refract around many reefs - Long Beach will be considerably smaller than the open ocean swell.

work hard for good waves they dont just come to you.. no handouts
Just going back from surfing in California. Folks there are utter *&^#*+*!s. Still have dings from the local who dropped on me and later shouted that I should not be there in the first place.
I love the vibe @long beach where everyone has the right to get a wave, however good or bad he is.
Keep the good vibes around!!!
1) Fun
2) and more fun
3) everyone in the water was a kook on their session, and probably few more sessions after that.
4)If someone keeps missing the wave, help them get onto one.
5)chill out, thats why most people surf, not to get more stressed
6)respect the fact that everyone else isn't a pro like you
7)and lastly have more fun.
You leave a session the way you approach it!
possible from both beginners and locals, short/long boarders, guys girls, 1)Being dropped in on
2)Paddling around the inside
3)Paddling for and missing waves (then going for the next one as well, and missing it)
4)Taking a wave, paddling back to 'the line up'& taking the next wave as well
5)Lining up in front of me as I paddle onto a wave
6)Not making an effort to be out the way as I drop in
7)Not even looking in front when paddling for a wave to see if there is anyone
etc, etc, etc...
So please if you do any of these things (Especially at Long Beaqch) and are not aware that it really spoils a session, refrain from doing them, be part of the solution & not the escalation of disrespect & unessecary aggravation, just do for others as you would have them do for you, may the stoke be with you.
Pretty selfish bunch of long boarders, get your act together and even out the playing fields.
I paddled out yesterday and couldn't understand why I was struggling so much, felt totally unfit. Then got to the back and saw I was hauling a big chunk of seaweed that had wrapped around my leash.... felt pretty stupid!
Insane setting, just f'n love it.
