Wavescape Media, famous for marine forecasting and surf films, has launched wavescape.mobi for cell phone users to access the surf reports, photos, videos, and breaking news that are published on wavescape.co.za.

The new product, available at wavescape.mobi and built by Thumbtribe.mobi, combines the latest cell phone technology with Wavescape Ocean Watch, a specialised ocean forecasting system that pulls automated data feeds into graphic formats, augmented by manual analyses for 10 South African coastal regions and more than 40 beach locations.

Wavescape.mobi also gives cell phone users access to web cams with live images and the latest surfing news, video, slideshows, blogs and cartoons.

CEO of Wavescape, Spike, said: “Wavescape Mobi is a new addition to the burgeoning South African digital landscape, in this case wavescape, and part of the trend of information access via mobile technology. The site makes our proudly South African wave and wind forecasting tools instantly accessible to a wider range of users on the road.

There are also 50 Creature surfboard leashes to be won for those who SMS the words mobi wave to 33978, and follow a simple instruction to bookmark wavescape.mobi
