The Banzai Pipeline went large and perfect for this year’s IBA Pipeline Pro. Wavescape presents our largest slideshow in a bid to portray the four days of madness that rocked the North Shore in the most awesome of ways. We can´t complain about summer this year, but in J-Bay, lulls between swells have been long. There have been good forecasts, but the models were fickle, and swell direction was too West. Still, there were some mellow February vibes. Photos by Paul van Jaarsveld

It was all in the heat of the moment as Stevo, Robin Taylor and Spike shoot the "high" action at Ultimate X in Cape Town on Saturday. The amount of air, the level of skill, and the sheer mullet-headed tenacity of these athletes is mind-boggling.

The fat south swell this weekend was an epic fail, but deep in the Boland, it cooked. False Bay had waves, but never really got out of the stable, and many breaks were small and crowded. Stevo, not to be outdone by a myth, sniffed out solid surf deep in the heart of the Boland, with virtually no-one around.

Last Sunday saw temperatures in Cape Town skyrocket and the masses descend on beaches all over the Peninsula. Robin Taylor took a drive out to the other side of the bay to discover the surfing was as hot as the day.

After weeks of waiting, Funso’s swell finally arrived in Durban on the weekend. With every old local dashing back to Surf City for the swell of the year, Funso was an anti-climax, but the waves were good. Dawn Rouse took time out from shooting the QE2 to capture the charnas charging New Pier.
