This right
hand point break is a fickle wave best
surfed during a solid South swell, but
when it goes it delivers foam spitting
monster barrels which reel down the
line with bone crunching regularity.
The Rags reef is close to the edge of
the island and there is no time for
the wave to slow down before it hits
the shelf at full speed. The result is
a thick lipped barrel which breaks in
shallow water. Angle down the line
straight from take off and don’t stop
pumping until you have made the barrel
and go flying out over the back of the
wave. The barrels are world class but
many surfers have lost skin here.
When it is small you can surf further
up the point where the waves are often
more manageable.
