Its location at the tip of Sipora
Island makes this is one of the most
consistent waves in the Mentawais,
second in consistency only to
Thunders. Depending on the swell size,
direction and tide, Lances left can be
shallow and hollow (beware the inside
section at low tide) or big and fat
with wide open faces. You can get
barreled here if you pick one which
hugs the reef, but more often you will
be lining up for a big round house
cutback which makes this the favorite
wave of the kind of surfer who prefers
riding a longer board.
Lances left is often overhead but it
is not an intimidating wave and
suitable to all levels of experience.
