THE BOAT :: INDONESION STYLE, WESTERN COMFORTS

With all the surf you want, as well as space, comfort, food, toys and cultural
experiences, each charter is prepared to entertain and satisfy surfers
and non surfers alike.

The ORIGINAL vessel in the Indies Explorer fleet is the legendary Sulawesi schooner “LAUT INDIA” (nicknamed the Indies Explorer). The LAUT INDIA is a 115 foot Ketch made from solid Indonesian ironwood. She was built on the Island of Sulawesi in Indonesia specifically for long-range surf exploration. With an astounding fuel range of 3,500 nautical miles, the LAUT INDIA takes her passengers to areas no other boats have access to. She cruises comfortably at 9 knots and features all the navigation equipment, including a potent long-range radar and satellite phone. This guarantees cruising by night and surfing different spots by day!

As Surfer magazine's editor Sam George said: "We found ourselves aboard the incredibly romantic "LAUT INDIA", a motorized version of a 120ft Sulawesi pinisis, traditional vessel of the famed Bugi pirates...and as purple night pushed all bright colour down over the horizon, replacing it with ink and silver, we stretched out in our private teakwood cabins, brass portholes open to the cool breeze of the Straits, the steeplechase motion of the lovely ship and the night sounds of the rigging lulling us to sleep like a lullaby."

The space on board
(see the deck plan)
The main hub of the LAUT INDIA is a modern open-plan galley which leads onto a spacious tarp covered aft deck and table that seats 16. There is a private saloon with TV, VCR, DVD, CD player and an extensive library. Eight private double cabins, with AIRCONDITIONING, each with porthole and skylight means that the spacious LAUT INDIA is the perfect boat for your wife or girlfriend. We also have no less than 3 tenders: two 3,5m rigid inflatables each with 8hp and an 8 seater 4,5m center consol rigid inflatable with 40hp allows us to access nearby breaks without having to "move" the mother ship. Also on board is a 2 person sea kayak, game fishing tackle, snorkelling gear and more. The LAUT INDIA accommodates up to 10 passengers for charters of 10, 12 and 14 nights.

The Laut India team
Both skippers Chris Macarthy and Gideon Malherbe and 1st mate Darren Stockwell are experienced skippers and surfers and the Mentawais is their backyard. They are backed up by veteran Indonesian Captain Sulaiman, hotel trained chef Risno, the most famous dingy driver Naga and the acrobatic deckhand Jan. This is without question the best charter team in the islands and their track record for finding good uncrowded surf, for serving great meals and for making your holiday the best ever is without equal.

Equipment & Electronics
