Urgent Call for Fergie FundsFriday October 23, 2009 Surfing administrators, friends and colleagues from around South Africa have urged fellow surfers to give financial support to champion surfer Heather Clarke after she was seriously injured in a car crash yesterday.
![]() Fergie: Happier Days South African Surfing Champion, 2008 ISA World Masters Women’s Champion and former World Championship Tour surfer, Heather Clark, is in hospital today after being injured in a car accident near her home in Port Shepstone yesterday.
According to reports an alleged drunk driver lost control of his
vehicle and smashed into the Ford Escort that Heather was driving,
splitting it in two. "Heather is such a ‘giver’ by nature and has given so much to the surfing fraternity over the years. It is now our turn to give back. "We are helping collect for Heather and will be handing over a deposit in a week’s time towards her medical. Please – please guys – you know how happy surfing makes your kids and you – give a little – it will go a long way!" Fergie suffered a serious head injury that required 22 stitches and is being assessed for other injuries at the Hibiscus Coast Hospital today. The alleged drunk driver, who was uninjured, was arrested after the accident and spent the night in jail. Heather has no medical aid and apart from a small surf and swimming school, is not employed. Her injuries will not only cost her a fortune in medical expenses but will prevent her from earning an income while she recovers. Anyone interested in assisting this great South African surfer with her medical costs is requested to donate to the following account:
